Collection: SALA 2025 Exhibition - Alchemy of Blue
By Ellen Schlobohm
Developed by sunlight, Alchemy of Blue, is a series of cyanotypes celebrating the intricate beauty of nature and the enduring presence of history. The process pays homage to the Barossa Museum’s extensive collection of cameras and photographic tools. Each captured item explores the nature of museum objects - collected, preserved, untouched. A bygone era is examined through the lens of ghostly blue renderings.
Other works see flora pared back to silhouettes, using repetition and pattern to create new compositions. Exploring how natural elements can be abstracted and reshaped. Throughout Alchemy of Blue, a narrative forms between the familiar and the reimagined. Image-making is reframed as both documentation and alchemy - an interplay of chemistry, sunlight and time.
